Swami Vivekananda - Life Story

Swami Vivekananda - Life Story

This is the series of articles dedicated to legendary Swami Vivekananda (12 January 1863 – 4 July 1902) born as Narendra Nāth Datta – the beloved disciple of the great Bengal Saint Śrī Ramakrishna and the foremost leader and teacher of disciples after Ramakrishna’s passing away.

Swami Vivekananda was among the first Vedāntic teachers who travelled several times to USA and England and other European countries to teach Vedanta, Hinduism and the message of Śrī Ramakrishna to wide masses to introduce the Vedanta in the West.

Many of His lectures later became books from which already several generations have learned the eternal and universal truths of Vedic teaching, what is bhakti yoga, rāja yoga, karma yoga and many other spiritual teachings, necessary for the spiritual perfection and the perfection of the whole world.

Swami Vivekananda became very popular in India too – as a spiritual teacher to his disciples and God-brothers, as a spiritual ambassador, who has made the western countries to speak about India’s spiritual richness, who has made everyone inspired to hold fast to religion and God.

Swami Vivekananda was also a great social reformer – always reminding that God is manifested in everything and all people – and the service to people is also service to almighty God! We should learn to see the God in every being and treat it like God.

Swami Vivekananda was also the founder of the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission to propagate the above mentioned teachings of Śrī Ramakrishna and Vedanta. Though Vivekananda didn’t took official seats in them, due to his other duties, travels and finally – poor health – but he was the initiator and informal leader of them to the end of his days.
